The Way of the Geek

Geeks and Gadgets has three club values:
Make it fun! Make it cool! Make it open source!

We hold these values dear as they are the very core of what the club is about; having fun while make a cool open source project. We also highly value democracy and cooperation, two things that are absolutely necessary for any project to come to a successful end. The geeks are all about being open and transparent, one of the reasons why we support open source. Don’t believe us? Fine, we encourage the question everything attitude! Here is our Constitution so you can check it our for yourself!

Meet the Geeks:

    President: Philip Taylor

    Philip is a double major, Computer & Information Technology and Management Information Systems, at Marshall University. In addition to his position with Geeks and Gadgets, he is an officer of Beta Alpha Psi and a member of the Honors College. He has involved himself with several robotics programs around WV such as FIRST Lego League and VEX Robotics, both as a team member and an event volunteer. He has made many contributions to the open source community that are shown on his website and his GitHub page. Philip hopes to pursue a technology-based career in the business world.

    Vice President: Skylaar Mease

    Skylaar is a Computer Science major at Marshall University. He is a member of Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He has a robust interest in learning, primarily in the fields of technology and mathematics. His hobbies include reading, listening to music, spending time with friends, and finding educational content to help facilitate learning. He hopes to pursue a career combining technology and mathematics.

    Secretary: Jack Brown

    Jack Brown is a junior in the undergraduate Computer Information and Security program at Marshall. Jack does cybersecurity research with Dr. Pu in the Computer Science department and is always eager to learn!

    Treasurer: Anthony Brown

    Anthony is a senior in Marshall’s Computer and Information Technology program with emphasis in Game Design. He likes to write Windows Form Applications and work with game engines.

    Faculty Advisor: Husnu Narman, Ph.D.

    Dr. Narman is pursuing his academic career as a faculty member at Marshall University where he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science of the College of Information Technology and Engineering. During his postdoctoral studies, he worked with Dr. Haiying (Helen) Shen, who was his supervisor at the College of Engineering and Science, Clemson University. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Abant Izzet Baysal University in Turkey, and Master of Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at University of Oklahoma, and his advisor was Dr. Mohammed Atiquzzaman. He also worked with Dr. Turgay Korkmaz during his master.
